Local roundup | Bradenton Christian hangs on to beat Imagine School

September 14, 2013

Bradenton Christian's rematch with North Port Imagine School produced another high-scoring affair. But unlike last fall's homecoming game, the Panthers were the ones that came away with a victory.

BCS (3-0) remained unbeaten with quarterback Joey Giardina completing 18 of 26 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns, while Sinclair Laskett added roughly 100 rushing yards in the Panthers 46-43 non-district win over the Sharks.

"It was one of those track meets," BCS head coach Allan Gerber said, "where we couldn't stop them, and they couldn't stop us."

WINTER PARK TRINITY PREP 42, SAINT STEPHEN'S 0 -- A week after recording a 58-point victory, the visiting Falcons found themselves on the other end of a rout against the host Saints.

Trinity Prep (2-1) scored all 42 of its points in the first half and cruised to the win.

Saint Stephen's, which downed Citrus Park Christian 64-6 last week, fell to 1-2.

"It was a long night," Falcons head coach Tod Creneti said. "We shut them out after halftime, and the offense moved the ball better."

CARDINAL MOONEY 44, LAKE PLACID 7 -- Demardre Patterson rushed for 175 yards and scored three touchdowns, and the Cougars recovered two fumbles in the end zone for scores as the sixth-ranked Cougars outlasted the host Dragons to move to 2-0.

Both teams played for the first time in two weeks after having their games canceled by bad weather last week.

Patterson, a senior who missed the season opener with an illness, scored on runs of 63, 5 and 5 yards. Quarterback Reese Vita connected with Austin Leach on a 45-yard scoring strike. Leach caught five passes for 103 yards

Defensive back Sean Morris and linebacker Clark Horne recovered fumbles in Lake Placid's end zone.

The Dragons fell to 1-1.
