MANATEE -- The IMG football team used a huge fourth quarter to slip past West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman 43-24 on Friday to stay undefeated at 3-0.

The Ascenders did have a rough first half. Quarterback Michael O'Connor just couldn't get into a rhythm and turnovers killed them.

Luckily, Bo Scarbrough carried the load. The transfer from Tuscaloosa, Ala., scored both of his team's first-half touchdowns.

Scarbrough's second touchdown came with 1:20 left in the second quarter and brought IMG within a field goal before the half.

Senior kick returner Vosean Crumble had his 80-yard kickoff return negated by a running-into-the-kicker penalty.

"We made too many mental mistakes in the first half tonight," IMG head coach Chris Weinke said.

The start of the third quarter was pretty much the same for IMG. O'Connor had two fumbles in the period, one leading to a Cardinal Newman touchdown.

"I've been there," Weinke explained. "I told him (O'Connor) you have to keep your poise and keep playing," he added.

In the fourth quarter, the tide turned for IMG.

Vosean Crumbie, who muffed a punt earlier in the game, returned a punt 60 yards to set up a Scarbrough touchdown from 12 yards out.

The punt came a few plays after IMG forced a sack that caused a fumble and a safety, giving IMG a 29-24 lead with 10:53 left in the fourth quarter.

"It's a long football game, and I knew I'd be able to make it up to my team," Crumbie saud.

"We never felt out of it. We just needed a big play and that safety was it," Crumbie added.

IMG scored 23 points in the fourth quarter led by the running of Scarbrough. Scarbrough, who has committed to Alabama, finished the game with 299 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns.

"He's the best I've seen," Weinke said of his star tailback.

"We ran the same plays we ran in the first half. I was just able to have better runs in the second," Scarbrough said.

IMG will travel to Trinity Catholic next week, kickoff set for 7 p.m.
