The scoop: The Tigers are looking to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2009, their last season under coach Raymond Woodie, now an assistant at USF. ... QB Jack Allison is third in the area with 218 passing yards, but has thrown four INTs and one TD pass ... Palmetto leads only Bayshore in total offense among area public schools, averaging 235.5 yards per game. But the Tigers are second to Manatee among public schools in total defense (269 yards). ... Palmetto opens its Class 7A-District 10 schedule next week at North Port. ... The Cougars nearly clinched a fourth straight postseason appearance last year, but five of their wins were erased for use of an ineligible player. ... They have allowed 19 points over their first two games, including six last week to Southeast, and opened the season by upsetting St. Petersburg Lakewood, which entered the season ranked second in the state in Class 5A. ... QB Robby Hicks rushed for 54 yards while throwing for 143 yards and two TDs last week against the Seminoles. ... The Cougars allowed 167 yards of offense last week and limited Lakewood to 27 yards and one first down in the second half in Week 1. ... These two teams could meet again later in the year. The Cougars are in Class 7A-District 9, and the champion and runner-up out of that district meet the champion and runner-up out of District 10 during the first round of the playoffs.

Prediction: Clearwater Countryside 17, Palmetto 7.

Out-of-Door Academy (0-2) at Booker (0-1)

Time: 7:30 p.m.

The scoop: This game was moved to Thursday because the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur will be observed Friday. ... The Thunder have produced just 16 points in two games ... ODA's defense, meanwhile, has allowed an average of 43.5 points in two lopsided defeats to open the year ... Jason Fineberg (152 rushing yards) leads the club's rushing attack ... Booker has only one game under its belt; the Tornadoes' clash with county foe Riverview was washed out last week. ... Booker opened the season with a 49-18 loss to Sarasota. ... RB Marlon Mack, who transferred to Booker from Sarasota, leads the Tornadoes offense and began with a strong effort against the Sailors (16 carries, 120 yards). ... The Class 5A Tornadoes should wear down the Thunder with their depth and weapons on both sides of the ball.

Prediction: Booker 49, ODA 7.
