Palmetto leads only Bayshore in total offense among area public schools, averaging 235.5 yards per game. But the Tigers are second to Manatee among public schools in total defense (269 yards). ... Palmetto opens its Class 7A-District 10 schedule next week at North Port. ... The Cougars nearly clinched a fourth straight postseason appearance last year, but five of their wins were erased for use of an ineligible player. ... They have allowed 19 points over their first two games, including six last week to Southeast, and opened the season by upsetting St. Petersburg Lakewood, which entered the season ranked second in the state in Class 5A. ...
