Local roundup | Braden River takes down rival Lakewood Ranch in volleyball

Siena Kelley led the way with 16 kills Tuesday night as the host Braden River volleyball team collected a 25-17, 25-15, 20-25, 14-25, 15-11 victory over rival Lakewood Ranch in a Class 7A-District 10 match.

Cassidy Barich added 12 kills, and Maddie Jaco had nine for the Pirates (1-3, 1-0 district). Courtney Rapp had 44 assists, and Taylor Wallace and Jaco had 23 and 22 digs, respectively. Marycate Heller recorded five blocks.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 0 -- Monica Costa turned in 23 assists, six kills, three blocks and three aces, and Lauren Maxey added 10 kills Tuesday night as the Out-of-Door Academy volleyball team claimed a 25-17, 25-22, 25-18 district victory over visiting Bradenton Christian.

Reanna Gregory had five kills and five blocks. Cameron Graham had 25 digs, and Taylor Albano contributed 18 perfect passes and 15 digs for the Thunder (4-1, 1-1 Class 3A-District 10).

The Panthers (0-4, 0-1) got 14 digs from Savannah Shontere and nine kills from Abbie James and five kills from Jayme Haynes. Alexis Ferrer had six digs.

ODA claimed the junior varsity match 25-16, 25-18.

BAYSHORE 3, ST. PETERSBURG GIBBS 0 -- The Bruins (4-1) used a total team effort to move to 2-0 in Class 5A-District 10 with a 25-13, 25-10, 25-8 triumph over the host Gladiators.

In the junior varsity match, Bayshore (1-6) earned its first victory 25-7, 25-22.

SARASOTA 3, PALMETTO 0 -- The Sailors cruised to a Class 7A-District 10 triumph despite 10 kills from the Tigers' Danielle Deterding and eight assists and 10 service points from Whitley Canezo. Palmetto fell to 0-4, 0-2 in the district.

JUNIOR VARSITY -- Manatee fell 25-16, 25-10 at St. Petersburg. Alex Smith had four kills, and Gabby Valdez contributed three aces for the Hurricanes (2-2).

Manatee won the varsity match in four games to improve to 3-1, 1-0 in Class 8A-District 8.


TRI-MATCH -- The Lakewood Ranch boys and girls swim teams cruised past Saint Stephen's and Bayshore in a tri-match at G.T. Bray park.

The Mustangs scored 149 points to win the boys meet. The Bruins scored 88 points, and the Falcons put up 69. Bayshore got two event victories from T.C. Smith (200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke).

The final team tallies in the girls meet was unavailable. The Falcons got wins from Lauri Schleicher (100 butterfly) and Kristen Brockett (100 backstroke).
