Wednesday anniversary events commemorating the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 include:
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, ceremonies at SCF Bradenton, SCF Lakewood Ranch and SCF Venice. SCF Bradenton will hold ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. at the Campus Ministry building and 10:15 a.m. at the flagpole at the 26th Street West entrance. The early service will begin with prayer and a moment of silence followed by a color guard processional to the campus pavilion near the Student Union.
The second service at SCF Bradenton will begin at the flagpole at the 26th Street West entrance. State Rep. Greg Steube will speak and Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue crew will recognize Sept. 11 rescue workers.
The ceremony at SCF Lakewood Ranch will begin at 8:45 a.m. with a moment of silence and meditation at the flagpole in front of the Center for Innovation and Technology. Lakewood Ranch Remembers 9-11 will be held 8:45-9:15 a.m. at Manatee Technological Institute East Campus, 5520 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch. The Fire Department New York Suncoast Florida Retirees will host a public remembrance at 11 a.m. on Lakewood Ranch Main Street following the MTI ceremony. Buffalo Creek Middle School, 7320 69th St. E. Palmetto, students will post American flags at 9:25 a.m. The annual "Tribute to Heroes" memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on the Bradenton Riverwalk with members of the Manatee County Fire Chiefs Association, Bradenton Fire Department, West Manatee Fire Rescue and East Manatee Fire Rescue, elected officials and law enforcement. The inaugural Sept.11 memorial lunch will be held at the Ramada Venice Resort, 425 U.S. 41 bypass north, Venice. For details, call Gene Sweeny at 770-330-7683 or e-mail email@example.com. A Sept. 11 Remembrance Ride will line up at 5 p.m. at The Bearded Clam, Ramada Inn, 7150 N. Tamiami Trail, Bradenton. Memorial and riders meeting at 6 p.m. The ride will end at Applebee's, 3255 University Parkway, Sarasota.
The Sarasota Police Department will join the city of Sarasota, Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and the Sarasota County Fire Department for a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the front entrance of the SPD, 2099 Adams Lane, Sarasota. Free and open to the public.
