Manatee teen jailed after brother's jaw broken

MANATEE -- A Manatee County man has been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly breaking his brother’s jaw.

Authorities say Austin Olivero, 18, who lives in the 2500 block of 38th Avenue West, struck his brother in the face multiple times while the brother was sleeping in a residence on Cortez Road.

The incident occurred at 5 a.m. Monday in the 2300 block of Cortez Road W., according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The victim was first struck in the back of the head and reportedly woke up.

When he awoke the victim reported Olivero was standing over him, striking him until he broke his jaw.

Deputies met the victim at a nearby Burger King where he was taken to a local hospital to be treated .

Due to his injuries, the victim could not communicate well and reportedly may experience permanent disfigurement.

Olivero was charged with aggravated battery. Olivero was arrested Monday and released from jail Tuesday. The bond amount was not posted.
