'Cops' to have Sarasota flavor this fall

September 10, 2013

SARASOTA — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office will be included in the premiere of “Cops” when its 26th season debut at 8 p.m. Saturday on its new home on Spike TV.

A crew from Cops rode with deputies in May and June to create nearly a dozen segments to air during different episodes throughout the season.

“It was an honor to have an American documentary television series of this caliber ask to follow our deputies throughout Sarasota County,” said Sheriff Tom Knight. “I’m also glad that our citizens will get to see some of what deputies have to deal with on a daily basis in a format that is true, unscripted reality television.”

Cops is produced by Langley Productions and the program, which premiered in 1989, is one of the longest-running shows on television. Visit cops.com for programming information and “web extras” that will be posted to offer extended versions of some of the encounters edited for television.
