Prep golf: Lakewood Ranch wins own invite

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Luke Miller fired a 3-under-par 69 Saturday to help keep the Lakewood Ranch boys golf team unbeaten with a victory in the six-team Lakewood Ranch Invitational on the Royals Lakes course at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.

The Mustangs (16-0) scored a 278, five shots better than second place Tampa Newsome. Riverview (289) and Venice (299) were third and fourth, respectively.

Ramsey Touchberry and Danny Walker each had 71s for Lakewood Ranch, and Charlie Sun had a 70.

Girls cross country: Manatee wins at Newsome

TAMPA -- Sydney Britt and Katie Lanphere finished second and third, respectively, to lead the Manatee girls cross country team to a Varsity division title Saturday at the Newsome Wolves Invitational.

The Hurricanes scored 31 points, blowing away second-place Largo (112) and Hillsborough (112) in the 13-team event.

Britt finished in 22 minutes, 43.10 seconds, and Lanphere came in at 22:45.80. Also for Manatee, Jessica Jones was sixth in 23:04.60, Madeline Valadie was eighth in 23:55.70, and Nicole Hittel was 12th in 24:06.90.
