Woman Tasered after refusing to leave tax collector's office, deputies say

Herald Staff ReportSeptember 5, 2013

A woman was Tasered after she refused to leave the Manatee County Tax Collector's office in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The woman, 47-year-old Tracy Stewart, had been in the office several times in the past week, and each time she had caused "a disturbance" and was asked to leave, a sheriff's report states.

When she entered the office Thursday around 4:10 p.m., a deputy warned her if she acted out she would be asked to leave and given a trespassing warning.

When she began arguing with an associate, the deputy told her she had to leave. She responded by saying "I'm not going" and that the deputy was "going to have to fight her," the sheriff's office said.

The woman continued to resist the deputy after he deployed his Taser, and he had to use it a second time to bring her under control, according to the report.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and suffered no further injuries.
