Commissioners deny East Manatee housing development

MANATEE -- The Manatee County Commission on Thursday denied 5-2 plans for a residential development at the Martin/Hillwood tract in East Manatee.

Board members said they were deterred by arguments of neighbors and the number of housing units the owners had sought to build on the 77.9-acre, heavily forested tract.

Voting in favor of a motion to deny were Commissioners Vanessa Baugh, Michael Gallen, John Chappie, Robin DiSabatino and Carol Whitmore; voting against were Commission Chairman Larry Bustle and Commissioner Betsy Benac.
