PALMETTO -- A Palmetto High school student was charged with sexual battery after he allegedly forced himself on a fellow student, according to the Palmetto Police Department.

Darrell Simmons Jr. was arrested at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Palmetto Police Department after he came in voluntarily for questioning.

Police allege the sexual battery occurred at Palmetto High School on or about March 18 at lunchtime.

Simmons is reported to have grabbed the female student by the arm and forced her into the boy's restroom.

Police allege Simmons forced himself on the girl, who reportedly tried to pull away and escape as she told Simmons "no."

Simmons "admitted to forcing the victim to have sex the first time with her in the boys bathroom at Palmetto High School," according to a Palmetto police report on Wednesday morning's interview.

Police report Simmons denied any force was used when first interviewed April 23.

Police also report the victim signed a sworn statement April 12 that she was forced and repeated her allegations during a recorded interview.

However, during another recorded interview April 23, police report the victim stated the sex was consensual and force was not used.

Calls to Palmetto Principal Willie Clark after school hours were not immediately returned.
