Local prep sports roundup | Panther golfers now 5-1

The Bradenton Christian Panthers boys golf team improved to 5-1 for the season with a 164-173 victory Tuesday over the Cardinal Mooney Cougars at the IMG Academy course.

Philip Knowles led the Panthers and took medalist honors with a 35, followed by teammates Landry Miller (37), Jack Knowles (45) and Trent Bell (47).

Leading the Cougars were Michael Stajkos (40), Jake Lamore (41), Ryan Anderson (41) and Mabry Robinson (48).


BAYSHORE 3, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 0 — The Bayshore Bruins improved to 3-1 for the season with a victory over the visiting Bradenton Christian Panthers by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-15.

The Panthers (0-2) were led by Abbie James (14 kills), Alex Watson (six kills), Kara Saylor (seven digs) and Haley Waldo (15 assists).

SAINT STEPHENS 3, IMAGINE SCHOOL OF NORTH PORT 0 —Bryce Liebel had 22 assists, seven digs and six aces, and Lauren Biach added nine kills and two blocks as the Panthers (1-2) defeated the Sharks 25-15, 25-7, 25-16.

SOUTHEAST 3, PALMETTO 0 — The visiting Semioles cruised to a victory in three games with scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-15.

Leading Southeast (1-2) were Emma Bartges (13 kills, six digs, two aces), Casey Harman (six kills, two aces) and Marline Valcin (five kills, six digs) and Lacey Sanchez (24 assists, nine digs).

Leading the Tigers (0-2) were Danielle Deterding (14 kills).

• JV: Palmetto defeated Southeast in three games, 25-13, 13-25, 15-12.

CARDINAL MOONEY 3, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 2 — The host Cougars won a back-and-forth battle by scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 15-25 and 15-9 over the Thunder.

Leading the Cougars (1-2) were Madison McNally (23 kills), Keri McMahon (11 kills), Kelly Firek (nine kills, four blocks), Maria Soscia (12 digs) and Lexi Barbour (53 assists). Leading the Thunder (2-1) were Natalie Buffett and Lauren Maxey, who combined for 23 kills. Reanna Gregory added seven kills and four blocks. Taylor Albano contributed five kills, four blocks and three aces.

Cameron Graham had 20 perfect passes.
