MANATEE -- A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after a motel manager he robbed and several co-workers tackled him to the ground and held him until deputies arrived, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:20 a.m., Wayne Johnston attacked the general manager of the Motel 6 at 660 67th St. Circle E., as she was leaving the office. Johnston sprayed her face with mace and ripped away her purse and business bank bag, before running away, according to a news release.

"The victim enlisted the help of several co-workers and collectively tackled Johnston and held him down until MSO arrival," a report states.

Johnston was arrested and charged with armed robbery.
