Masked gunman robs McDonald's in Sarasota

SARASOTA -- A masked gunman early Tuesday robbed a McDonald's restaurant in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

About 4 a.m., a mean wearing a black mask entered the restaurant at 5554 Fruitville Road, pointed a pistol at employees and ordered them to the back of the store, according to a news release.

The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene. No one was injured, the sheriff's office said.

The suspect was described as being between 45 and 50 years old and standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a blue button-down dress shirt and blue jeans, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office did release a photo of the suspect.
