Bradenton officer recovers gun, stolen car

August 30, 2013

BRADENTON -- A Bradenton police officer on patrol Friday morning recovered a car reported stolen out of Pembroke Pines. Inside the car was a gun, according to police.

About 10:06 a.m., Officer Eleazar Garcia was "pro-actively patrolling" the 1900 block of Seventh Avenue East, when a license plate check came back to an unoccupied vehicle reported stolen out of Pembroke Pines.

"This vehicle had been stolen subsequent to a residential burglary that occurred  in Pembroke Pines, along with three firearms," police said in a news release.

Garcia recovered a .22-caliber handgun from the driver's side floorboard.

"The stolen vehicle and firearm will be processed for any serviceable forensic evidence." police said.  "There were no persons in the vicinity of the stolen vehicle, and there were no witnesses to this incident."

“Based on recent violent crimes that have occurred in the vicinity of this incident location, officers have been and will continue to aggressively patrol the area in a continuing effort to combat gun violence,” police Deputy Chief Warren Merriman said in the release.
