Man charged with raping woman in Bradenton

August 30, 2013

BRADENTON -- A 34-year-old Bradenton man has been charged with a raping a woman, according to Bradenton police.

Jose Perez, who already was in jail on an unrelated charge, was charged with sexual battery, false imprisonment and other crimes, after the woman told police Thursday he had attacked her the day before at a residence on 21st Avenue West. Perez and the woman knew each other before the attack, police said.

The woman told police what had happened after she was arrested Thursday as part of an anti-prostitution sting by Bradenton police. Officers had taken her to the Manatee County jail, but officials there refused to book her because of injuries to her face, police said.

Perez is being held without bond at the jail.
