Ranch golfers edge BCS at Rosedale

Ramsey Touchberry led the way with a 1-under-par 35 on Thursday as the Lakewood Ranch boys golf team won a five-team match at Rosedale Golf and Country Club.

The Mustangs (4-0) shot a team total of 161, two shots better than Bradenton Christian (4-1). Danny Walker added a 38 for Lakewood Ranch.

BCS got a 35 from Philip Knowles.

Braden River got a 39 from Andrew Hammett and placed third with a 174. Sarasota was fourth at 184. Manatee, led by Sai Gadam's 42, shot a 190.

PALMETTO 200, SOUTHEAST 248 -- Josh Durso paced the visiting Tigers (1-2) with a 46 as Palmetto beat the Seminoles (0-1) at The River Club.

Southeast's William Kelly led all scorers with a 42.

SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 159, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 162 -- The Thunder fell at home as the Blazers got a 37 from Tony Jiang.

Evan Murphy paced ODA with a 40.

Girls golf

VENICE TRI-MEET -- The host Indians shot a 163 to defeat Lakewood Ranch (209) and Sarasota (223) at Capri Isles.

Freshmen Theresa Morrissey and Morgan Mulholland led the Mustangs with 50s.

Volleyball

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3, SOUTHEAST 0 -- The host Thunder rolled over the Seminoles 25-15, 25-10, 25-17 behind 14 perfect passes, 11 digs and eight aces from Cameron Graham.

ODA (2-0) also received a total of 19 kills from Natalie Buffett and Lauren Maxey. Greta Holland had six aces.

Southeast (0-2) got 10 kills from Emma Bartges and 15 assists from Lacey Sanchez.

ODA won the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-20.

BAYSHORE 3, PALMETTO 1 -- Joy Norman turned in 15 kills, and Jojo Muldoon added 10 to lead the visiting Bruins past the Tigers, 30-28, 25-22, 24-26, 25-23.

Kristen Fleury contributed 31 assists for Bayshore. Danielle Deterding and Whitley Canezo led the Tigers with 22 kills and 22 assists, respectively.

ST. PETERSBURG KESWICK CHRISTIAN 3, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 1 -- The visiting Panthers got nine kills from Abbie James and six aces from Kara Saylor in a season-opening defeat, 25-16, 16-25, 25-15, 25-23. Haley Waldo dished out eight assists for BCS.

SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 3, SAINT STEPHEN'S 2 -- The host Falcons fell to 0-2 with a 25-11, 25-13, 19-25, 25-21 defeat at the hands of the Blazers.

Bryce Liebel led Saint Stephen's with 28 assists and 18 digs. Sophie Bilik had 12 kills and 12 digs.

JV football

MANATEE 42, TAMPA JESUIT 13 -- Karim Khaybullin scored a pair of touchdowns as did Raymond Thomas as the Hurricanes opened the season with a road victory.

Michael Murrell returned an interception and a punt for touchdowns.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 27, BRADEN RIVER 6 -- Grant Weisman threw for one touchdown and ran for another as the Mustangs got past the visiting Pirates.

Davion Thomas, Newill Williams and Damon Murray scored for Lakewood Ranch (1-0).
