BRADENTON -- Bradenton will reconstruct an aging lift station on 13th Avenue East and Third Street East at a cost yet to be determined.
City Clerk Carl Callahan said the city is working on acquiring land near the station location.
The lift station collects sewage, lifts it and pumps it to the waste water treatment plant.
Claude Tankersley, public works director, said the station is old and the city needs a new one.
"It's time to replace it," said Tankersley.
In other business:
Bradenton city officials want to install new parking meters downtown. During the workshop Wednesday, Callahan told City Council about the proposed meters.
An automated system is possible where customers could call in the amount of time they need on the meter and pay for it with a credit card.
"We were just reviewing them," said Tankersly, who could not give a time line or price on what it would cost to install meters at this early stage in planning.
The Bradenton City Council chambers will get a $25,000 computer system upgrade to convert from analog to digital.
"It cost a little more than what we were thinking," said Callahan. "But this is what was proposed to us."
Council Bemis Smith had concerns with the price.
But Callahan said City Council already approved the funding to upgrade the system and the additional fee to have a special feature on the display screen.
Council Gene Gallo said they should take the new system and not be stuck in the old times.
"The city of Bradenton needs to stay up with technology," said Gallo. "It's not going to bankrupt us and it's what we been using."
The Da Vinci exhibit, which will come to the Bradenton Auditorium Nov. 15, will bring in roughly $30,000 to the city, said Callahan. He said the city will receive 10 percent of gross proceeds. The exhibit directors will reimburse the city for utility costs.
"We're able to put them in there at minimal cost and still have a revenue," said Callahan.
