'N Sync member will meet with fans in Bradenton

It wasn't the most talked-about event at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, but for unintentional entertainment, nothing could match the stage malfunction involving Chris Kirkpatrick.

At the end of the ballyhooed reunion by Kirkpatrick and the rest of 'N Sync, trap doors opened and Timberlake, Fatone et al. magically disappeared into the stage. All except Kirkpatrick. His door did not open, leaving him standing alone on stage and literally looking for a hole to crawl into.

Notwithstanding that mishap, which of course was not his fault, the performance by 'N Sync was pretty awesome.

You can chat with Kirkpatrick, who was one of the band's original members, today at McKechnie Field.

At about 6:30 p.m., Kirkpatrick will throw the ceremonial first pitch as the Bradenton Marauders play the Fort Myers Miracle. Then, until 7 p.m., he'll sign autographs and pose for pictures on the outfield boardwalk near the Kona Bar. After the autograph session, Kirkpatrick will stick around to meet and mingle with fans.

Kirkpatrick's been doing more television than music in the decade or so since the official end of 'N Sync. He was a cast member on the celebrity reality show "Gone Country 2" a few years back, and he's the voice of Chip Skylark on the hit Nickelodeon show "Fairly Oddparents."

Kirkpatrick apparently won't be performing at McKechnie Field, but after the game the Kona Bar will remain open for "Boy Band Karaoke."

Details: 6:30 p.m., McKechnie Field, 1611 Ninth St. W., Bradenton. Tickets: $6 for adults, $5 for children, and up. Information: 941-747-3031, www.BradentonMarauders.com.
