SCF volleyball openswith victory on road
Hannah Curtis led the way with 12 kills Tuesday night as the State College of Florida women's volleyball team opened the regular season with a 26-24, 25-19, 25-18 victory over host Clearwater Christian College's junior varsity.
Susi Peonia added seven kills, and Janhea Beisner had nine digs.
PORT CHARLOTTE 3, SOUTHEAST 0 -- The visiting Seminoles got 10 kills from Emma Bartges in a losing effort in the season opener.
Marline Valcin had four kills, and Lacey Sanchez added 13 assists and 11 digs. The Noles fell 25-20, 25-14 in the junior varsity contest.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 1 -- Natalie Buffett had 16 kills, 14 perfect passes and eight digs to lead the host Thunder to victory in the opener.
Lauren Maxey added 13 kills, and Monica Costa had 37 assists for ODA.
MANATEE JV 2, BAYSHORE 0 -- Cassidy David and Alysha O'Dell served the Hurricanes past the Bruins 25-23, 25-13. Manatee won the varsity match 3-0, but scores were unavailable.
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 158, MANATEE 173 -- Junior Philip Knowles fired a 3-under-par 33 in rainy conditions to lead the Panthers to victory in the opening match for both teams at the IMG Academy course.
Landry Miller added a 39 for the Panthers. Sai Gadam's 38 paced the Hurricanes.
NORTH PORT TRI-MATCH -- Josh Whitson shot a 45 to lead Palmetto against the Bobcats and Community Christian School in a tri-match at Bobcat Trail. The Tigers shot a 208. Community Christian won easily with a 147, and North Port had a 185. Community Christian's Yuki Fujii was medalist with a 32.
RIVERVIEW 148, BRADEN RIVER 167 -- Mason Fox carded a 34, and Jeremy Perna shot a 35 as the visiting Rams won at Waterlefe.
Jared Delrose led the Pirates with a 40.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 155, CARDINAL MOONEY 166 -- The Thunder's Evan Murphy was medalist with a 37, and teammate Jon Eichenbaum had a 38 in a season-opening victory at The Meadows. Jake LaMore paced the Cougars with a 40.
SAINT STEPHEN'S-BAYSHORE -- Ellie Berdusco and Kristi and Lauri Schleicher each had a hand in four victories as the Falcons girls team won every event against the Bruins in the teams' first meet at G.T. Bray park.
The three girls swam with Kristen Brockett in the winning 200-yard medley and 400 freestyle relays. Berdusco also won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Kristi Schleicher took the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and Lauri Schleicher won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Bayshore won the boys event 71-45. T.C. Smith and Daniel Komarov each claimed four victories. They swam with Harrison Vandernoord and Chris Giles on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Smith won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Komarov took the 200 individual medley and the 50 freestyle.
