August 27, 2013

MANATEE -- A 14-year-old boy was beaten and robbed at gunpoint by three men late Monday as he walked along a Bradenton street, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 10 p.m. the victim was walking southbound in the 6400 block of Columbia Drive, in the Bayshore Gardens area, when he saw a small gold car pass him and stop several feet in front of him.

The driver turned back towards the victim and stopped short of him. Three men then got out of the car, one armed with a shotgun and another with a handgun, according to a news release.

The assailant wielding the shotgun ordered the boy to the ground and struck him in the back of the head with the weapon, while a second suspect searched the victim and removed items from his pockets, according to the report.

All three robbers then got in the car and drove away.

The victim suffered a cut to the back of his head, which was treated by paramedics.

Two of the suspects were described as having their faces covered, while the third suspect was heavy set with no shirt on. He had a scar or tattoo on the left side of his chest, according to the sheriff's office.
