MANATEE — MANATEE A man told authorities he left his home Oak Terrace subdivision in the 3300 block of 56th Drive East for just 20 minutes Friday before returning home to find unwanted guests.
The man, who had forgotten to lock his rear sliding door, returned at 1:06 p.m. and found two young men in his bedroom, according to a Manatee County Sheriffs Office report.
The two men reportedly ran past him and out the sliding door. The victim followed the men, noted their getaway car was an older black Lincoln with a donut spare on one wheel, recorded their license plate and called 911.
The victim also picked up a bag of jewelry the men had dropped, according to the report.
Deputies found the Lincoln on nearby 34th Court East. A suspect named James M. White, 21, of Bradenton, reportedly began to walk away and the deputy laid him prone to the ground at gunpoint.
The victim reportedly identified White as one of the men in his bedroom.
The report does not give the status of the second man who was in the home.
White was charged with burglary of a dwelling. He was in the Manatee County jail Monday subject to a $10,000 bond, according to the sheriffs office website.
