MANATEE -- A 44-year-old Bradenton man has been charged with retail theft in a case that involves dog food.
Authorities say Steven Alfred Gambino, who lives in the 5900 block of Riverview Boulevard, stole an 11-pound bag of dog food valued at $33 from the Pet Supermarket at 4315 26th St. W., Bradenton on Aug. 4 and tried to return it a short time later at the Pet Supermarket at 6908 Manatee Ave. W.
The manager on duty at the Manatee Avenue West store had heard about a theft at the 26th Street West store so he called the manager there to confirm the information, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.
Gambino may have overheard the conversation because he suddenly left the store, leaving the dog food, the report states.
The manager of the Pet Supermarket took down Gambino's vehicle license plate and deputies later saw Gambino on surveillance video taking the bag at the 26th Street West store, the report indicates.
Gambino was arrested Friday and remained in the Manatee County jail Monday subject to a $500 bond, according to the sheriff's office website.
