MANATEE -- A 67-year-old Bradenton woman told authorities a story Monday that could serve as a cautionary tale.
The woman, who lives in the 5600 block of 14th Street West, told a deputy with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office that she felt sorry for her nephew because he didn't have anywhere to live so agreed to let him live at her home beginning Sunday for just a few days.
The woman gave the nephew her ATM card so he could go get supper for the two of them on Sunday afternoon, according to a sheriff's office report.
On Monday, after the nephew had taken a shower and left her home, the woman tried to find her ATM card with no success, the report states.
When she called her nephew to find out where her ATM was, he told her that he took it Sunday night and that he gave it to someone as collateral because he owes them money, the report states.
The woman, who told deputies that she hasn't been feeling well, was advised that she now needs to go to her bank and check if there has been any unauthorized activity.
The nephew took all of his belongings when he left Monday and the aunt reported that he is not answering his phone.
