Temple Emanu-El Bradenton/East Manatee Jewish gathering: For the seventh year in a row, Temple Emanu-El will sponsor a free gathering for Jewish and interfaith families in Bradenton and East Manatee starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at Summerfield Park, 6402 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., between University Parkway and State Road 70. Attendees will enjoy socializing, balloon animals crafted by Temple EmanuEl Rabbi Brenner Glickman, face-painting, and time on the ballfields, playground equipment and under the shaded pavilion. Bring a picnic dinner or purchase fresh pizza; cold soda, juice and water will be provided free. The ice cream truck will also pay a visit with free treats for all. The evening will conclude with a havdalah service, which marks the separation between the Sabbath and the week ahead as the sun sets over the park. Quilting program: Chabad Hebrew School presents the Jewish Heritage Series and Holiday Quilting program at 11 a.m. Sunday at Chabad House, 5712 Lorraine Road. CHS will present four different Heritage Series throughout the year: the Shofar factory, the Olive Oil factory, the Matzah bakery, and the Sofer factory. Each segment of the Jewish Heritage Series provides hands-on experience for children, enabling them to learn about various cultural themes and Judaic items in an interactive and exciting setting. Open house: Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, will hold its annual open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Attendees will be greeted by Rabbi Brenner Glickman, religious school director Sabrina Silverberg, preschool director Elaine Sharrock and representatives from the board of directors, adult education committee, social action committee, Tours of the facility, snacks, and children's activities will be provided. High Holiday workshop: Rabbi Geoff Huntting and Chazzan Cliff Abramson with guitar at 11 a.m. Sunday at Temple Sinai to delve into the High Holy Day liturgy, traditions and music. "Connection, Reflection and Conversation" will provide a forum to share thoughts and insights. All members of the community are welcome. Free and bagel nosh will be served. Speaker from Leket Israel: Lauren Yoked, associate director of development for Israel's National Food Bank Leket Israel, will speak during Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road in Sarasota. Leket Israel will rescue and distribute more 25 million pounds of produce and perishable goods for Israel's poor this year. One million meals, and 1.5 million sandwiches for underprivileged children, will also be prepared by 45,000 volunteers. Yoked will discuss how to voluneter for Leket. Information: 371-2788.

Living Lord Lutheran Church: Our Daily Bread/Project 5000 at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11120 State Road 70 E., Lakewood Ranch, is collecting grocery bags filled with unbreakable containers to feed local families. Each bag will feed a family of four for two days or a family of two for four days. Also, the Quilters and Crafty Ladies meet 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month to make lap robes and quilts for the needy in Manatee County. Needed: funding for medication, socks, mosquito repellent, toilet articles and soap, shoes, jeans, baby diapers and formula, reading glasses and bicycles. Donations can be given directly to the One Stop Center, 701 17th Ave. W., or dropped off at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Road, Longboat Key.

Temple Emanu-El: Under the direction of its Social Action Committee, Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, continues its food drive for those in Sarasota-Manatee who go hungry. Nonperishable boxed and canned foods may be placed in a marked bin in the Temple lobby during business hours and before and after Shabbat worship services.
