August 23, 2013

MANATEE -- Showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday afternoon in the Bradenton area, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are calling for mostly sunny skies, with a high near 90 and heat index values as high as 97. Easterly winds of 6 to 9 mph will become westerly in the afternoon, according to the Weather Service.

The chance of rain during the day and into the evening is 60 percent, mainly between 2 and 8 p.m.

Friday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 75.

Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a weak trough of low pressure that is producing "disorganized cloudiness and thunderstorms" over the northeastern portion of the Gulf of Mexico.

Forecasters are giving it a 10 percent, or "low," change of developing into a tropical storm or hurricane as it moves westward during the next day or so.
