Bradenton man arrested after panhandling, tussle

August 22, 2013

— MANATEE — A 47-year-old Bradenton man who authorities say has a history of asking Walmart customers for money in the State Road 64 Walmart parking lot, was charged with battery on a Walmart loss prevention officer.

The incident occurred 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Walmart on State Road 64, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Douglas Hardy Einstein, who lives in the 7000 block of 45th Avenue Circle West, reportedly already had a formal “trespass,” or “can not return” at the Walmart for a previous incident of following customers to their cars and asking for money.

A deputy reportedly saw Einstein asking a customer for money. While checking the deputy was checking his trespass status, Einstein allegedly punched the loss prevention officer in the left shoulder.

As the deputy was pulling Einstein off the victim, his pants fell down and the deputy and Einstein both fell to the ground.

No one was seriously hurt in the incident, according to the report.

Einstein was in the Manatee County jail Thursday on $3,000 bond for battery and violating a trespass notice, according to the sheriff’s office website.
