MANATEE -- The popular Sarasota-based bar Evie's Tavern is on track to open mid-September in southwest Bradenton.

Evie's Tavern & Grill is expected to open the week of Sept. 15 in a Benderson Development-owned shopping center, 3561 53rd Ave. W, across from Winn-Dixie, said Michael Evanoff, owner of Evie's.

"We're focusing on more of a family atmosphere, trying to get people from IMG, the high school and college to come to this location," Evanoff told the Herald.

The new Evie's will offer the full menu featured at other Evie's locations, he added.

The original Evie's started in 1997 on Bee Ridge Road with a golf driving range, expanding to a car wash, mini-golf course and more. This will mark Evie's seventh location and the third in Manatee County. Other Manatee Evie's includes Evie's Pizzeria on University, 5897 Whitfield Ave., and Evie's Tavern in Ellenton, 5955 Factory Shops Blvd., near the Ellenton Premium Outlets.

The Evanoff family expanded to other concepts including the White Buffalo Saloon country bar in Sarasota and The Beer Box craft beer store in Sarasota. Beer lovers can expect to see some of the craft beers sold at Beer Box such as Founder's, Cigar City and Swamp Head featured at the Bradenton Evie's, Evanoff said.

"We have 19 taps and plan on putting in a large selection of craft beers," he said. The taps will rotate regularly to expose area residents to more brews, too.

Evanoff's team is in the midst of remodeling the interior of the former Scores Taproom and Superfan Bar with a refinished bar, pool tables, a jukebox, community-style tables and booths, an area for delivery and pick-up orders as well as an outdoor awning area to accommodate smokers.

"We'll have an area for larger parties as well to seat around 30 people at one table," he said.

Karen Verbeke, new owner of Go Legs indoor cycling studio next door, said she's happy to see new businesses come into the shopping center.

"They can get their indoor cycling classes here first and then go over there to have dinner and a beer," Verbeke said.

Evie's will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sundays-Tuesdays and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays, he said. The popular happy hour from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. also will come to the Bradenton location featuring $2 Bud and Bud Light bottles.

Food specials include a 50-cent jumbo wings on Tuesdays, $8 18-inch pizza on Wednesdays and $5 burgers on Thursdays.

Evanoff expects to employ 25 to 35 people, through a mix of hiring internally from existing Evie's and adding staff at an open house hiring event that's coming soon, he said.
