Sheriff: Bradenton man threatens to kill woman with hammer

August 20, 2013

MANATEE -- Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies were looking for a man who attacked his estranged girlfriend late Monday, according to a news release.

About 9:45 p.m., the suspect went to the woman's house in the 3400 block of Ninth Street Court West, in spite of a no-contact order against him to stay away from her, according to the sheriff's office.

He confronted the woman as she sat inside her truck. She locked the doors, but the man began smashing the truck with a hammer, ordering her to open the door. The woman eventually opened the door and the man got in and threatened to kill her with the hammer if she didn't do what he said, according to the report.

The man forced the woman to drive to behind a church in the 3700 block of 26th Street West while a red Ford Explorer followed them.

Once at the church, the man grabbed the keys from the woman's truck. The woman tried to call 911, but the man snatched the phone and again threatened to kill the woman with the hammer, the sheriff's office said.

The man got out of the truck and went to the Explorer, but came back about five minutes later to tell the woman "the police don't mean anything to him and that he would come back and kill her," the sheriff's report states.

Deputies could not locate the man.
