Manatee deputies arrest suspect in Cortez burglaries

August 19, 2013

MANATEE -- A 17-year-old man has been charged in a string of burglaries at a Cortez mobile home park, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested Evan T. Jones after they responded to multiple reports of break-ins in progress at Sunny Shores Mobile Home Park, 3826 116th St. W.

Deputies first responded about 3:45 a.m. and determined there had been numerous vehicle break-ins. Deputies, including a K-9 unit, searched the area but did not find anything, according to a news release.

About 5:20 a.m., another call came in. Deputies again responded and eventually found Jones hiding in a corner of one of the buildings at the park, according to the report.

After he was read his Miranda rights, Jones guided a deputy around the trailer park and pointed out the vehicles he had burglarized and the items he had taken, the sheriff's office said.

Most of the items were returned to their owners, according to the sheriff's office.

Jones, who was on probation, faces at least four counts of burglary, the sheriff's office said.
