Faces in business: Maribeth Phillips

August 14, 2013

Title: CEO

Company: Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee

What was the best business advice you ever received?

To honor the past, put a ribbon on it, and move ahead. In other words, give thanks and be ready to go forward on a new page. Another memorable, important piece of advice I was given is to give credit and recognition to those who have mentored you in your career.

If you could choose another profession, what would it be?

My career path has taken me from large organizations to small family-owned businesses in different functional roles such as human resources and marketing and sales. This path led me to my current position at Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee, and it is the most rewarding role. I could not imagine myself in any other profession.

What's the biggest risk you have taken in your career?

Leaving Connecticut to relocate to Lakewood Ranch. I had a network of contacts in Connecticut, but I had been thinking about relocating to Florida for a while. It was a risky move with two children, and proved to be the right move for our family and for my career.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you start?

I love to travel, and I have been very fortunate to have traveled to a number of countries. Next on my list to visit would be Ireland (ancestors), Australia (friends), Italy (friends), Greece and Spain (future friends), and then Tahiti. I would start the traveling in Ireland and then travel to the others.
