MANATEE -- The Manatee County School District is preparing to get students ready for school and comfortable with their new classrooms before the first day of school Aug. 19.
The schools have all set up open house visits for parents and students.
Manatee County School District Superintendent Rick Mills urged parents Friday to register their children for school as soon as possible to help reduce the number of teacher transfers that occur after the start of the school year.
Parents need to register their children for school if
their child is transferring to a different school or if they are new to the Manatee County School District.
"It's very important for parents to register their children so our schools can have a good grasp on the number of students they will have this year," Mills said.
"Registering early helps limit the disruption of having to move teachers from one school to another after the school year begins."
Traditionally each school year, a significant num-ber of parents registerright before the first day of school, or after the school year has begun, according to district officials.
Parents of kindergarten students sometimes make up a large portion of late registrations because they are new to the school registration process.
Parents and studentscan familiarize themselves with their schools, class-rooms and teachers at open houses scheduled for next week.
