Rotten Ralph's drops the "rotten" and reopens in Bradenton

BRADENTON -- Rotten Ralph's reopened Saturday at a new location in West Bradenton and under a new moniker.

Dave Russell, owner and manager, said the new name is Ralph's.

"Everybody refers to it as Ralph's any ways," said Russell. "Since were changing locations we're just going by Ralph's."

He said he is thrilled to be open again and especially with his new location in Bradenton, 5942 34th St. W., near State College of Florida, Bayshore High School and IMG Academy.

Russell said right now the menu is the same with the same prices, but he will add healthier items to accommodate the athletic community.

"We're probably going to adjust the menu," said Russell. "We'll focus a little more on some sandwiches and some healthier things for the young'uns and some quick lunches for the people that come in and out."

The restaurant still serves their signature all-you-can-eat fish and chips for $12.

The long time Anna Maria restaurant, which originally opened in 1988, is now in a central location that allows the restaurant to have more regular customers, Russell said.

"We are thrilled to be at a place that is more cen

trally located and in an area that is building up," he said.

The new restaurant, which seats 140 people, has an old Florida style with a surfer infuence, said customer Bobby Collins.

"I'm glad they're open because it's hard to find authentic British style fish and chips. That's my favorite," said Collins, who lives on Anna Maria Island, adding it's only a ten minute drive to the new location.

He has been eating at the restaurant for the past six years and comes in at least three times a week.

"It's easy to come here and get a nice fresh hot meal," he said. "It's nothing stuffy."

Russell said the customers are happy to see them open again, but it took him a little longer than he expected.

In May, Russell lost his concessionaire contract with the city of Bradenton Beach, which forced him to move from the Bradenton Beach Pier to his new location.

Russell said that although he wanted to open two weeks after closing in Bradenton Beach, it took more time than he expected to work out the logistics.

The new location will honor any coupons or gift certificates from Rotten Ralph's even if the expiration date has passed, he said. The restaurant's hours are Monday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call Ralph's at 941-778-1604 for more information.
