Police search for suspects after Bradenton drive-by shooting

August 5, 2013

— BRADENTON -- The Bradenton Police Department and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office have searched a River Pointe home for suspects reportedly seen riding in a green truck at a drive-by shooting Monday afternoon and come up empty.

The green truck was found soon after the shooting in the 3900 block of Third Avenue East. After allowing several people in the home determined after questioning not to be involved in the driveby shooting, including the owner, law officials surrounded the home where the vehicle was parked. Access to the River Pointe neighborhood was blocked by a half dozen BPD and MCSO vehicles.

Upon law officials entering the house - the scene of a 2012 homicide, according to BPD - no one was found after a thorough search.

No injuries were reported in the earlier drive-by shooting but a SWAT Team sharpshooter had a high-powered rifle trained on the house before the search. K-9 handlers were at the scene, too.

About 3:45 p.m., four men in a green pickup truck opened fire on a house in the 700 block of 24th Street East, Bradenton. Police reported finding 16 shell casings from high-powered weapons.

A family in the house at the time of the shooting is not cooperating. The shooting is just blocks from the 13 AV Dream Center where a fatal shooting occurred Thursday.

Police said they do not know if the shootings are related.

“We do not believe it’s a random shooting,” said Bradenton police Deputy Chief Warren Merriman.
