August 1, 2013

MANATEE -- The driver of a vehicle that matched one that had been reported stolen was able to flee on foot after a chase early Thursday in Bradenton and Palmetto, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The pursuit started about 2:58 a.m. when a deputy spotted the vehicle in the 3400 block of First Street, Bradenton.

The chase continued north over the Desoto Bridge, and stopped at Seventh Street West and U.S. 41, Palmetto, when the driver fled on foot, according to a news release.

A police dog tracked for the suspect, but he was not located.

Subsequently, deputies learned the vehicle had not been reported stolen, but they did find narcotics in the front seat, according to the report.

"The registered owner was contacted and he told deputies he loaned the vehicle to a man he only knew as 'Joe,'" the report states.
