Local modern dance aficionados usually experience Fuzion Dance Artists in formal settings, especially the Jane B. Cook Theatre at the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, where the company stages its main concerts.

This weekend, Fuzion has something different in mind.

"It's very informal," artistic director Leymis Bolanos Wilmott said "We're inviting the audience to be become a part of the performance."

The performance, titled "In the Round," gives eight company dancers a chance to showcase their work. It's the first time they've had the chance to present locally a dance they created, and most of them have never choreographed before.

Besides being staged in the round in an intimate setting, this concert allows audience members a chance to be involved through a directed talkback that's designed to give the choreographers information and ideas to further develop their pieces.

"It's really an opportunity for people to get an insight into our craft," Wilmott said.

Several of the pieces in this concert will go on to be included in Fuzion's main annual concert in the Cook Theatre in December.

Details: Aug. 2-4, Black Box Theatre, Hamilton Center, New College of Florida, 5920 General Dougher Place, Sarasota. Show times: 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2-3, 2 p.m. Aug. 4. Tickets: $10 at the door, Information: (941) 345-5755, www.fuziondance.org.
