In a July 24 letter, "Martin would not have confronted a bigger man," the writer asserts that if George Zimmerman had stood 6-foot-5 and weighed 250 pounds, Trayvon Martin would never have attacked him. The fact is that not a single witness testified that Zimmerman was attacked by the teenager.
No one saw how the physical altercation began, only two figures on the ground in the dark, and even their accounts of what they saw differed.
The only person who claimed that the teen attacked him was Zimmerman himself in statements to the police, which were then introduced to the jury as fact by the defense team.
I watched the entire trial on TV, and found Zimmerman's story to be full of holes, inconsistencies, and outright lies.
A video was shown of Zimmerman lying to Sean Hannity in an interview in which he claimed he had never heard about the "Stand Your Ground" law before the confrontation with Martin. Subsequently, evidence was produced that Zimmerman had taken courses in criminal justice, and the instructor testified that he had covered the law in class as well as the requirements for a plea of self defense.
Another questionable assertion by Zimmerman is that Martin repeatedly smashed his head against the sidewalk, broke his nose, and was brutally beating him, which is why he had to shoot the teenager. Yet two medical experts testified that his injuries were "minimal" and "inconsequential."
I believe that Zimmerman's story that he was attacked by Trayvon Martin was concocted to support his claim of self defense, and the reason he did not take the witness stand was because the defense team knew his story would be ripped to shreds.
Zimmerman killed the only other person who could have testified to what actually happened, and unfortunately the dead cannot speak from the grave.
