FHP investigating whether fatal crash in Parrish was alcohol-related

July 28, 2013

PARRISH -- A 49-year-old Valrico man died when he drove his pickup truck off the road and it overturned in Parrish, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers were awaiting the results of blood-alcohol tests to determine whether he was drunk at the time of the crash, according to a report.

About 3:22 a.m. Robert L. Hoelzer was driving south on U.S. 301 approaching a left curve in the road north of Moccasin Wallow Road, when he ran off the roadway onto the grass shoulder and entered a ditch. The vehicle overturned and struck a culvert before coming to rest in the ditch, according to a report.

Hoelzer, who troopers said was not using a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
