4-year-old Manatee drive-by shooting victim in stable condition

July 27, 2013

— A 4-year-old boy was a victim of a drive-by shooting Saturday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities are looking for an orange Dodge Challenger or Charger with spinner rims, according to Sheriff Brad Steube at the scene.

Deputies say the vehicle drove down the 2600 block of 36th Avenue West, at about 11:19 a.m., turned around drove back down the street and fired several shots at a house where the boy, his mother and one other adult were inside. One of the bullets entered into the bedroom window striking the victim, according to a news release. Neither adult was injured, authorities said.

The boy was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center and later transferred to All Children's Hospital where he is in stable condition, Steube said.

At this time, detectives do not believe this was a random incident and that the residence was targeted for unknown reasons.
