Manatee driver eludes deputy after traffic stop

July 27, 2013

— A driver being stopped for running a red light escaped early Saturday morning after making an aggressive move toward a deputy, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported.

A deputy attempted to stop the car at about 12:22 a.m. after the driver ran a red light at 59th Street West and Manatee Avenue West.

The suspect pulled north onto 62nd Street West as if they were going to stop, but instead, the vehicle performed a u-turn and drove directly at a deputy, causing the deputy to believe the act was intentional and making him take evasive action to avoid a collision, a news release said.

The pursuit continues to the 2200 block of 30th Avenue West, where the unknown driver fled on foot and was not able to be located. There was no crash or injuries, the sheriff's office said.
