Myakka City motorcyclist killed in collision

— The Florida Highway Patrol reported Ernesto Bernal of Myakka City was killed Thursday after his 2006 Suzuki GS500E motorcycle collided with a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by 23-year-old Nicholas Solana of Myakka City.

The accident occurred at 4:23 p.m., according to FHP.

Solana's red pickup was southbound on Betts Road north of the intersection with Anson Acres Road when he attempted to make a left turn onto a private driveway.

Bernal was was northbound on Betts Road when the front of his motorcycle collided with the right side of Solana's truck.

FHP cited Solana for no proof of insurance and failure to yield the right of way.

FHP reported alcohol was not a factor. Solana was wearing a seatbelt and unharmed.

Bernal was wearing a helmet. He was taken to Blake Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
