The hottest trend in American food doesn't involve a newly popular exotic vegetable or an innovative cooking technique. It's all about buying your meals from people in a vehicle.

Tampa Bay Food Truck Rally, a sort of traveling circus featuring some of the best food trucks in the region, returns to Bradenton from 2 to 6 p.m. July 27.

It'll be at Cortez Plaza East at 617 Cortez Road, with about a dozen food trucks, plus entertainment and activities, including a bounce house for kids.

This is the second Bradenton visit for the food truck rally; it first came to town in June and was a big hit then. Plans call for the rally to come to Cortez Plaza East on the fourth Saturday of every month.

The lineup of food trucks changes for each month's event. Among the ones slated to be on hand for the July rally are Hott Mess, Jimmy Meatballs, PAO Truck, Teaki Truck, the CheeseSteak Truck, Wrap N Roll, Ain't No Thang and Tropicool.

The Tampa Bay Food Truck Rally is relatively new to Bradenton, but there's a good chance experienced it before. Most days, the rally has trucks at Tampa International Airport's cell phone lot.

Details: 2-6 p.m. July 27, Cortez Plaza East, 617 Cortez Road, Bradenton. Free admission, food prices vary. Information: www.tampabayfoodtruckrally.com.
