Bradenton gang member charged with killing Sarasota restaurant manager

July 24, 2013

SARASOTA -- A Bradenton gang member has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a Sarasota restaurant manager, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives identified Juan De Dios Rodriguez, 20, as one of three men who on July 14 left the New Dynasty restaurant, 6131 S. Tamiami Trail, without paying for their $35 meal, according to a report.

The other two men identified Rodriguez as the man who threw the punch that knocked Taian "Andrew" Tian to the ground and caused the head trauma that led to his death. The men are considered witnesses in the case, according to the sheriff's office.

Rodriguez, who previously has faced several weapons charges, was arrested Tuesday and charged with manslaughter. He was being held without bond in the Sarasota County jail.

“This crime is a senseless tragedy,” Sheriff Tom Knight said in the news release.. “It began with a bad decision to commit a ‘dine and dash’ prank and led to a far worse choice that resulted in the death of a much loved man. We are committed to making sure that Rodriguez is held responsible for his decisions and actions.”
