Manatee ambulance in collision on emergency run

July 23, 2013

— A Manatee County EMS ambulance responding to an emergency with lights and sirens on got into an accident at 10 a.m. Tuesday at 17th Street West and First Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mildred Leggett Freemon, 79, Palmetto, was reportedly cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Freemon was traveling east on 17th Street West approaching First Avenue with the ambulance directly behind her.

As the ambulance tried to pass Freemon’s 2011 Dodge Nitro on the left, Freemon reportedly attempted a left turn and the front of Freemon’s vehicle collided with the right side of the ambulance.

Freemon suffered minor injuries and her passenger, a 62-year-old woman also from Palmetto, suffered no injuries.

The two ambulance drivers were uninjured.
