Beauty school to offerfree haircuts

BRADENTON -- GUTI, the Premiere Beauty & Wellness Academy, 4212 Cortez Road, will offer free shampoos and haircuts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 12 from its cosmetology students.

All students are volunteering their time as this is not a scheduled day of classes.

Sign up in advance. Consultation available. No other services such as curling or blow drying will be provided free.

Sarasota officer completes 400 hours of training

SARASOTA -- Lt. Brian Meinberg has graduated from the 67th Command Officers Development Course sponsored by the Southern Police Institute, Department of Justice Administration at the University of Louisville.

Meinberg attended the 400-hour training program at the Broward Public Safety Institute in Fort Lauderdale in five, two-week segments over a five-month period. Participants learn to solve problems; plan, implement and evaluate management strategies; and understand federal requirements for personnel issues.

Meinberg, who has worked for the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office since 2004, is now assigned to the Corrections Operations Bureau.
