Spitting on deputy doubles battery charges in Manatee

— MANATEE -- A Manatee County Sheriff's deputy already arresting a 41-year-old man at 6:35 p.m. Monday for allegedly battering his roommmate in the 2000 block of 83rd Street Northwest added another charge of battery on a law enforcement officer after William Maloney allegedly spit on him while being walked to the patrol car.

Maloney and his roommate reportedly got into a verbal argument, which turned physical. Maloney allegedly battered his roommate and MCSO was called.

After Maloney was arrested and handcuffed, he reportedly became verbally abusive and spat on the deputy, who was otherwise unharmed.

Maloney was charged with simple battery and battery on a LEO.
