Sheriff: Wife points gun at husband after he gets home from Bradenton strip club

MANATEE -- A woman was arrested after she pointed a gun at her husband when he got home from a Bradenton strip club, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Geraldine Barnard, 53, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault at 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of 51st Avenue East in Bradenton, according to an arrest report.

Barnard's husband arrived home early Tuesday morning and found his wife pointing his handgun at him, deputies said.

"The victim stated that when he first walked in and saw the gun pointed at him he was in fear," the arrest report states. "He then stated he was no longer afraid after he believed she was not capable of knowing how to fire the handgun and told her it would not work."

The husband was able to take the gun away from Barnard and called 911.

Barnard admitted that she pointed the gun at her husband and that it would not work. She later admitted she wanted to scare him, deputies reported.

Barnard further admitted that she pointed the gun at him because she was angry he had gone to a strip club.

Barnard appeared in court for the first time Tuesday and bond was set at $5,000. She was still in custody Friday at Manatee County jail.
