SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office investigating how a restaurant manager was left with "severe" head trauma Sunday night, according to a news release.

Deputies responded to New Dynasty Chinese Buffet, 6131 S. Tamiami Trail, about 9:38 p.m. after customers found the 51-year-old man lying unconscious in the driveway of a nearby business, according to the report.

"Employees and witnesses say the manager followed after three male customers who left the restaurant without paying for dinner. They heard tires squeal a short time later but did not find (the manager) for some time and did not know how he was injured," the report states.

The manager was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

The suspects are described as being in their 20s. They each had short hair, stood between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall and weighed between 210 and 250 pounds. One of the men has a pierced lip and eyebrow, and another has a "distinct" rosary tattoo on his wrist and hand, according to the sheriff's office.
