Manatee victim helps deputies catch purse-snatchers

— Deputies arrested two people suspected of purse-snatching Friday with the help of the victim, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

According to a news release, the victim has just driven to her home in the 1000 block of 66th Avenue West, when she was approached by by a 21-year-male. The suspect ripped her purse, containing money and personal items, from her arm and fled in a vehicle driven by a second suspect.

The victim followed the suspects while she called 911, the release said.

While chasing the suspects, the victim observed them throw her purse out of the vehicle. When deputies arrived, the suspects were detained and positively identified by the victim, deputies said. The victim's purse and her belongings were recovered and returned to her. No one was injured.

Arrested were Jeremy Smith, 21, and Maggie Malone, also 21, the release said.
