Lil Wayne brings strong lineup to Tampa

July 11, 2013

It's hard to believe Lil Wayne's only 30 years old.

He's been making strong hip-hop records for 21 years, and has been a making great solo albums since "Tha Block Is Hot" made him a superstar in 1999.

And unlike a lot of artists who hit it big while they were very young, Lil Wayne has continued to evolve and stay ahead of trends, making one great and often ground-breaking album after another.

He's headlining the America's Most Wanted Tour, which also features TI, Future and G-Eazy. It's easily the best hip-hop lineup of the year, with the possible exception of the old-school show headlined by Ice Cube and LL Cool J that came through town some weeks back.

Louisiana-born Lil Wayne has made the South a real force in hip-hop, and TI and Future -- both of whom hail from Atlanta --- have helped reinforce Southern rap.

This will actually be Lil Wayne's second appearance in Tampa this year. Back in March, he popped in unannounced to the Tampa Pro event at the Skatepark of Tampa. It was one of his first public appearances after he was released from the hospital, where he had been recovering from a series of seizures.
